After last night’s celebrations, we slept in till nearly 09:00, then went up to the marina for showers and had breakfast at the Woods Hole Market next door. We got underway just before noon and departed Eel Pond via the bascule bridge at the 12:00 opening. Once out in the Nantucket Sound headed to Martha’s Vineyard, the wind was blowing S 20-25/gusting 35, so we had a lively 16 mile sail to Edgartown. We picked up a town mooring in Katama Bay at 14:40. After a late lunch, we took the dinghy into town to explore. We walked around town for a couple of hours. It is a pretty town with lots of the typical shops, restaurants and bars along the streets close to the water. West of Water Street, there are a number of old houses, many built by successful captains during the height of the whaling and China trade days in the mid-to-late 1800s. After a light dinner, we took in a free foreign film “In the House” at the public library. We got back to the boat about 21:30 and, after a quick cup of tea, went to bed. 41-23.207’N, 070-30.603’W.
