The tidal flow turns favorable (i.e., up-river) about 09:30, so we got the anchor in about 08:30 and headed out to the Potomac. Wind was light today: NW 10 - 15, so it was calm, but right on the nose all day long so we motored the whole way. We could have sailed, but it would have made for a very long day. By noon, the wind was down to 5 knots. We anchored in Mattox Creek, on the south side of the Potomac just south of Colonial Beach. There are a million people down here for the Memorial Day holiday and they all seem to be out on wake-boats and jet-skis, but it is a beautiful, if somewhat warm day. Weather forecast looks good tomorrow for a 40 mile push up to Mattawoman Creek anchorage; wind is forecast to be SW 9, so we may get a bit of a sail.
