It was a quiet, cool night in Saint James Harbor, so we slept well. The engine was on and the lines were slipped just after 09:00. Winds were light from the N, so we motor-sailed all the way across to the mainland. Considering it was such a beautiful day, there were surprisingly few pleasure craft out on the water today. We tied up at Petoskey Municipal Marina at 13:40. Petoskey is a lively little town with a very vibrant downtown area; sort of wish we were spending two nights here, but we have reservations at Charlevoix for 3 nights starting tomorrow night - we can ride out the coming half-gale in comfort there. In retrospect, it would have been better to come straight here from St. Ignace and skipped Beaver Island - ah, well. Up in town, we put a bit of money into the local economy, then came back to the boat in time for happy hour, followed by dinner aboard. After dinner, we walked back up into town and blundered onto the Noggin Pub, from where we heard acoustic guitar music emanating. We walked in and found a guy from St. Jo, MI (Mike Strouen?), playing guitar and singing. He played a lot of Neil Young covers and a few of his own songs; we stayed for nearly 2 hours and had a rollicking good time. We did not get back to the boat until well after 23:00.
