The wind gusted up several times during the night and every time it did, I thought “we are not going anywhere in the morning”. But, when we got up, the wind was W7, I walked out to look at Lake Michigan and there were no whitecaps, so we decided to get going, after a quick run for showers, fresh croissants and a few groceries. We were away from the dock in time to make the 10:00 bridge opening. It was not bad at all out on the lake, although of course the wind was on the nose; we did manage to sail for an hour or so as we bore south into upper Grand Traverse Bay and found ourselves in the lee of the Leelanau Peninsula. Just as we got into Grand Traverse Bay, we were passed (very loudly) by about 19 or 20 cigarette boats, all going somewhere in a great hurry. We initially headed for Northport, but they were full-ish and the dock-master was so disorganized that we decided to push on a bit more south to Suttons Bay Marina, where we tied up for the night at 14:35. After we were settled in, we went for a walk around town; cute, touristy town, but we could not find anything we could not live without, so we came back to the boat for dinner. We are back south of the 45th parallel; i.e., once again we are closer to the equator than the north pole, and it is already warmer. It has been 3 months since we pulled out of Kingston, NY.
