Happy Juneteenth. Our dock neighbors woke us up pulling out at 06:30, but we gamely went back to sleep for another hour and a half. We finally rolled out about 08:00 and were underway by 09:00. We motored around the south end of Middle Bass Island, then turned NW toward the south end of the Detroit River and put the sails up. The wind was SW to WSW 10 - 15 all day, so we had another lovely close reach all the way to the southern end of the river, where we turned west to head over to Ford Yacht Club, which is on the very south end of Grosse Ile. With a little help from the past commodore of the club, who happened to be standing there as we pulled in, we got tied up by 14:30, just before a 30 kn rain squall hit us; good timing. The final yards coming into the yacht club were a bit unnerving: just as we turned out of the main channel, the depth sounder stopped responding (presumably, it was not getting a good return off the weedy bottom). Then, about half way in, the sounder alarm went off and was showing 3.6 ft; obviously, it was the weeds, because we never stopped, but it caused my heart to skip a beat. The club was closed on Monday, so we had dinner aboard, but several members came by to say hello.
