With a 9 or 10 hour journey looming, we were up at 07:00 and away from the dock (after a quick pump-out) by 08:00. The wind was fair for our crossing of Lake St. Clair, so we had the jib up almost immediately. As soon as the wind was up to W15, we cut the engine and sailed all the way across the lake. We restarted the engine only once we were across the lake and into the St. Clair Cut-off and only then because we were getting passed by both upbound and down bound freighters at the same time, so the channel got a little bit narrow. We motor-sailed the remaining 33 N-m, as the winds were a bit flukey and we were bucking 2.5 to 3.0 knots of foul current in the St. Clair River for the rest of the trip to Port Huron. After filling up with diesel, we were tied up at the Port Huron Yacht Club (from where I raced “Bushwacker” on Sunday) by 17:00. Dinner aboard, for the first time in a week.
