We woke to a cool, overcast morning with light SW wind. Away from the dock by 08:30, we motored out through Charlottetown Roads and into the Northumberland Strait, where the wind freshened enough that we were able to sail for a bit. But, primarily, we motored sailed the 44 miles to Pictou without event, arriving at Hector Quay Marina, right next to the replica of the “Hector”, at 15:00. On the way in, we saw the “Bluenose II” tied to the town dock. “Bluenose”, you will recall, is the famous, Nova Scotia-built fishing boat that was so fast it became the model for many early Americas Cup yachts; it is here on a tour from it’s home port in Lunenburg, NS, so we were lucky to get to see it. After we tied up, we walked over for a tour. After dinner aboard, we walked over to the adjacent deCoste Entertainment Centre and took in a live performance of “Starb’ard Side”, a Nova Scotian folk/roots band; they played a mixture of string band jigs and reels, folks songs from the area and threw in a few good sea chanties to boot - we had a great time and even got in a few dances.
