Summer Day 6: Bouctouche was beautiful in the morning, but the wind was fair for moving, so we got underway for Shediac before 10:00. The sail was up within minutes and as the run down the river was on a good heading, we got the spinnaker up almost immediately, although it came down after 30 minutes when the wind started to gust up above 18 kn. Outside the river entry, the wind dropped a bit, and as it was still WSW 12 - 16, we decided to skip Shediac and head straight across the Northumberland Strait to Summerside, Prince Edward Island (PEI). The spinnaker went back up and stayed up for nearly 4 hours (a record to date); a most excellent sail. The wind died and the current went foul about 7 miles out from Summerside, so we motored the last 1.25 hours. We refueled and tied up at the Silver Fox Curling Club and Marina (yes, they turn the basin into a curling rink when it freezes up in the winter; the curling season is longer than the sailing season) by happy hour.

Today is a chores day; the Admiral took care of the laundry and I spent the morning modifying and installing a new drawer roller for the Admiral’s under-berth drawer (it is a non-standard size, so I had to buy a bigger/different type and cut it down to size). In the evening, we walked a mile over to the College of Piping and experienced their excellent presentation of “Highland Storm”, Scottish pipes and drums, Highland and step dancing, by the instructors and current students; most entertaining and exhilarating.
