I was up at the crack of 06:30, but by the time I got over to Massilia, John was all finished and just waiting for the launch crew to turn up. Massilia hit the water just after 08:10, and we were off. I had the engine going on “c’est le bon” by 08:50 and departed RVicYC more or less immediately. By 09:35, we had the sails up and engine off and were headed up the San Juan Straight. We sailed all the way to Canoe Cove, where Massilia normally lives, and were all tied up by 13:30. After we tidied up the boats and John collected his car from RVicYC (via bus), we caught the 19:00 ferry from Sidney to Vancouver, where we rejoined our wives for a late dinner and general celebrations.

For two days, we larked around Vancouver while John went into work; we also spent a fair bit of time helping Laurie to close down her practice. On the evening of the 21st, we helped Laurie and their son Matthew celebrate their respective birthdays, along with Matt’s girlfriend, Julia.
