It was a nice long, quiet night at anchor. Arising at 08:00, we had a leisurely breakfast and decided to sail around to Diver Bay on the south end of Prevost Island. There was a SE 10 wind in Trincomali Channel, so we sailed off the anchor and then beat up the channel to the south side of the of the island and turned into Diver Bay, where we anchored at 13:20, with “Massilia” rafted alongside. We also followed with great interest as the Astros beat Toronto 1 - 0; Justin Verlander pitched a complete game no-hitter - his career 3rd no-no. Fantastic!! After lunch, John and I both started in on boat chores. Since I needed to run the generator to charge up the house batteries a bit, I took the opportunity to use the available 120 VAC power to run my electric rope cutter and finish trimming the grand-child-proof safety netting. We are now ready in all respects to receive young Henry; if we can just convince his parents. After that, I spent a couple of hours laying out and working on the arrangements for port and starboard anti-jibe lines. To facilitate this, I decided to build fore and aft cradles for the kayak; this will hold it up above the deck a bit to allow the anti-jibe lines to pass clearly underneath it. The cradles will also permit the kayak to be moved aft a few inches, thus reducing the tripping hazard at the bow and will also permit the port-side salon hatch to be opened a few inches (we have not been able to do this for years). While I was thinking about the design of these various elements, I decided once and for all to build replacement boxes to support the dorade vents; the replacements will be made out of teak to replace the existing, somewhat cheap-looking, worn and broken plastic. In the meantime, the Admirals went for a medium long walk on the property to the north of Diver Bay; no trespassing charges were filed. Happy hour and dinner aboard. Afterward, we conquered the 24 Aug Globe and Mail crossword puzzle.

This is a most excellent anchorage, at least in light or NW winds; we slept very well and did not roll out until 08:00. After breakfast, we did the weekly boat chores and then a bit of book-keeping, and then it was time for lunch. After lunch, we unlimbered the kayaks and all four went for an excursion in our own, respective personal crafts, to Richardson Cove, about 1 mile away, to check it out as a potential future anchorage. It is not as deep as Diver Bay, but is narrower and, being closer to the corner (i.e., Portlock Point), does not get as much, or any more, ferry wash into it as Diver Bay. This bay also has the advantage of being surrounded by a national park reserve, so it is legal to go ashore. All but the Admiral went ashore and walked out to the point to see the lighthouse. On the way back, I took the time to row all the way around the Red Islets at the south end of Diver Bay. A nice bit of exercise, all said. Back at the boat, we re-stowed the kayak and both took solar showers. John even went for a swim, but the 10 deg C water was a bit too refreshing for me. Happy hour and dinner aboard. We are trying to run through all of our Canadian-bought fruit, meat and vegetables, not to mention alcohol, before returning to the States on Wednesday or Thursday.
