We awoke once again to a pea-soup fog. Once I looked out of the cockpit after breakfast, it was starting to lift a bit and “Max” and already hoisted anchor and was motoring slowly out of the harbor. We got going just before 10:00 and motored into Johnstone Strait to find it, once again, flat calm. Today, I had better success finding the flood current and at times we were making 10.0 kn SOG. The original target for today was Blind Channel. However, just as we started into Mayne Passage, I realized that we could make it to Okisollo Rapids just before slack water at 16:15, so we turned back into Johnstone Strait, rounded Chatham Point at 14:20 and got to Okisollo Lower Rapids at 15:30. We shot through the lower rapids at 10 kn SOG and then shot through the Upper Rapids about 45 minutes early at an SOG of 13.5; quite exciting - a bit of turbulence, but no whirlpools in mid-channel, although there were some nasty looking rapids and overfalls on either side. As we pulled into the Octopus Islands and Waiatt Bay, there were already 8 or 9 boats lying at anchor. We headed on into the same spot where we anchored last year, and who did we find but “Carisma”, who we met in Ketchikan. After dinner, we rowed over for a drink and to catch up on all the news from the summer.
