Terri dragged me out of bed at 07:55 and we got ready to go. The anchor was aweigh at 08:35 and we motored out of Joe’s Bay with the last of the ebb. The weather was cool with a low overcast, but the wind in Fitzhugh Sound was NW8. As we came adjacent to Hakai Passage, the wind backed a bit and we were able to sail for about 10 minutes. We motored into Namu to have a look at the remains of the old cannery, but it is rapidly falling to bits and returning to nature. Shortly after we pulled out of Namu and back into the sound the wind freed up again and strengthened, so we were able to sail for another 40 minutes. We were anchored in Codville Lagoon by 13:43 and almost immediately rowed ashore and went for a hike on the very nice trail to Sagar Lake. I was tempted to go for a swim, but then the wind came up and cooled things off pretty dramatically, so I demurred. When we got back to the dinghy, we decided to pay a visit to the “Karen Muir”, which from a distance bears a striking resemblance to M. Wylie Blanchet’s “The Caprice” from “The Curve of Time”. When we got there, Pierre (who built the boat from scratch, without plans) and April invited us aboard and plied us with drink and h’ors doeuvres and we ended up yarning and swapping stories and staying until 19:30. They gave us lots of tips for places to visit while we are in this neck of the woods; we will take advantage of this info to occupy some of the days we have in hand before we need to be in Petersburg, AK to meet Jake on 16 June. We finally came back for a quick bite to eat and a bit of forward planning. The clouds cleared off and the sun came out and it turned into a lovely evening.
