Day 1 of our 2023 expedition to Glacier Bay. The morning started out badly at 00:01, when Joyce woke up screaming. She would not be comforted and carried on for 45 minutes or so, until Terri finally convinced her to go to the potty. As soon as she pooped, she calmed down and went right to sleep. Of course the kids woke us up before 07:00. We fed them breakfast and played a bit. I lowered the dinghy down about 09:00 and Dan and Jake both showed up just after 09:30. We got the dinghy loaded on the roof rack and the preliminary lashings on just before it started to rain. We went back in for a few minutes and played with the kids some more and chatted with Dan and Emily. They all finally left about 11:30 and we spent the next hour finishing lashing down the dinghy, oars and beach pole, loading the final bits into the car and cleaning up the house and putting the sheets back on all the beds. We finally got away from the house about 13:15 and drove straight to Drew and Emily’s house to meet their baby Johnny for the first time, arriving there about 17:30 (on the way, we listened to the end of the Astros at Braves game; the Astros came from behind - thanks again, Yordan - again in the 8th inning and put it away in the 9th, to sweep the Braves). Emily’s mom, Mindy, was there too, to help look after the baby as Emily transitions back into the workplace. They graciously fed us a very nice dinner and we chatted until 21:00, when we decided it was time for bed and headed to the hotel. We were in bed by 22:30.
