We did not get out of bed until nearly 09:00. It was cold down below, but much warmer up in the cockpit solarium, especially when the sun peaked out from behind the clouds. We lazed around the cockpit for the morning. About noon, we decided to head over to Effingham Island. The anchor was aweigh by 12:30 and we headed out of Bamfield Inlet to cross Trevor Inlet to Satellite Passage. By Entrance Island, I decided to deploy my fishing gear and see how it ran out. Naturally, within a couple of minutes, I had a fish on the line; it was a small ling cod. I was going to throw it back, but could not get the hook out, so hauled it aboard. We motored on across Imperial Eagle Channel against 15 - 20 knot headwinds, around the north end of Effinghham Island and on into Effingham Bay, where we anchored in 17 m of water. Massilia soon rafted up beside us. We seem to be well hooked, even though the wind was still blowing 10 - 15 knots (gusting 20) inside the bay. I cleaned the fish - it made a couple of small fillets. We sat around and talked about the weather for a while after dinner, until sunset, when the temperature plummeted and we all went to bed. The wind was still blowing 10-20 knots from the west and we were getting tossed around by the waves so much that Terri and I moved our foam topper and duvet into the back cabin and slept there, for the first time in 10 years. I won’t say that was our worst night at anchor, but it was in the top 5, maybe top 3. The only good news was that the anchor held like a rock all night long.
