We slept like rocks last night in the absolute stillness of the harbour, and did not get out of bed until nearly 09:00. After breakfast, the Admiral went up to do laundry and I got busy setting up the gale sail (I had not run it up in about 5 years) and setting up the jibe preventer lines on the main boom. John was busy in the afternoon working on his non-functioning holding tank/head; I stayed well out of it, having significant experience on our boat. The Admiral defrosted the freezer after lunch and I listened to the weather forecasts to try to decide when to head up to Tofino. For dinner, we went to Frankie’s.

We slept in again. After breakfast, I cranked John up his mast to see if he could fix his non-operative anemometer; he could not, but I got a good upper-body, aerobic work-out out of the deal. We had decided to stay here an extra day, so we took it pretty easy most of the day. After lunch, I listened to the Astros beat the Rangers; they had two “immaculate innings”, for the first time in a game in professional baseball history. Most of the restaurants in town were closed, so we went back to Frankie’s for dinner. Afterward, we stopped into Ukeedog’s for the Wednesday night jam session, but I never did work up the nerve to get up a play a song. It was good to hear live music again.

Once again, we slept well through the night, with a light rain falling intermittently, but we were up by 08:00. After breakfast, we were away from the dock just after 09:00 and motored out into the rain and fog. The fog lifted once we were out of Ucluelet Inlet and we motor-sailed NW along the coast. Along the way, we saw several sea otters floating on the surface in the distance, but they were pretty shy and dove long before we got close. Just after we passed Lennard I. Lighthouse and entered Templar Channel, we spotted a couple of humpback whales feeding in the channel, but were not close enough to get a good look. We stopped at Method Marine Supply and filled up with diesel (70 liters or 18.4 gallons), then came on around the corner to Tofino Resort and Marina. We were booked into C43, but someone else was there, so they put us on the end of A dock. Tying up was interesting with 3 - 4 knots of current running in the channel, right up to the dock. After a quick lunch, the resort asked us to move over to C dock, where we were supposed to go in the first place; this we did after waiting for the tidal current to go slack - at about 15:30. Then, we went for a walk around town and eventually settled on Spice Hut Indian Cuisine, where we ate too much, of course.
