Yesterday’s forecast of SE 20-25 for the evening was certainly realized. It was supposed to slack off around midnight, but did not slacken significantly until about 05:00. At 04:00, I got out of bed and went up to tension up the tack on the anchor riding sail, which had been flapping from tack to tack quite noisily for nearly an hour. We finally struggled out of bed about 09:15, only to hear from Massilia that they were headed for Blind Channel or Campbell River, to deal with a problem in their home. We decided to follow in the direction of Blind Channel. We got the hook up at 10:20 and motored back down Havannah Channel, turning back down Johnstone Strait at about 11:00. Massilia had departed Port Harvey about the same time we left Boughey Bay, so we caught up with them by noon. By then the tide had turned foul, so we had fun hugging the shore looking for back-eddies to reduce the pain. We were tied up at Blind Channel Resort at 17:15. Just as we arrived, we had a radio hail from Massilia, who were by now 6 miles behind us, that they had run out of fuel. Blind Channel Resort sent a fast boat to give them a tow in, so they would not be too late for dinner. We all had showers while we were waiting for Massilia and then went up for dinner at the excellent restaurant, where we had an excellent meal and 3 excellent bottles of wine. After a medicinal whiskey, we were all in bed by 22:00.
