A glorious sleep last night, with a light rain about 04:00 to lull us back to sleep. We finally got going about 10:00 and had a nice cruise down Quahog Bay, motor-sailing occasionally in the light easterly breeze, snagged a lobster pot briefly on the keel, but extracted ourselves fairly easily (by just going into neutral and letting the foul current push us backward off the line), rounded Jaquish Island to starboard, gave a close pass to both Monument Light and Eagle Island (Admiral Peary’s home), before heading up Casco Bay to the Harraskeet River and into Freeport Harbor. We picked up a mooring ball from Brewer Marina at 13:00 and after a quick lunch, rowed ashore and walked the 3 miles into Freeport to sample the delights of outlet store paradise, but particularly L.L. Bean’s main store. We managed to find a few items we could not live without, then had a drink and a light dinner at Linda Bean’s Topside Tavern across the street, followed by a long walk back to the marina; the dogs were barking by the time we got back - and my knees were not too happy, either. But, with a bit more general anesthetic taken orally, we had a lovely, quiet evening on the Harraskeet River, watching the terns, ospreys and seals hunting fish of various sizes.
