It rained a bit during the night, so we had the hatches all closed and it got a bit stuffy in the boat. We were up at 08:00 and took off immediately for Tim Hortons for breakfast and a good grocery shop at Sobey’s, before turning in the rental car. When we got back to the boat, I got to chatting with one of the FYC members, Deb (who happened to be the Past-Commodore); she gave me the low-down on the club moorings at Douglas Harbour and said she was headed there as well for the Wednesday evening race. We got away from the dock at about 11:00 and motored down the Saint John River to the entrance to Grand Lake at Heustis Creek, turning up the creek at 14:40. Negotiating the narrow, but well-buoyed, channel into the lake was no problem and we were in Douglas Harbour by 16:10. First, we took advantage of their pump-out facility, then moved over to a mooring ball, where we tied up just at 17:00. Along the way, we finished listening to “Void Moon”, which had so many twists and turns in the plot that it was not revealed - or at least we never figured it out - until the very end: another excellent read (or listen). Having finished “Void Moon”, we started listening to yet another Michael Connelly audio book, “The Poet”. We had dinner aboard and watched the start and finish of the race out on the lake. After the race was over, all the club members gathered in their small club-house up on the land; we rowed ashore and joined them for a couple of hours of cheer, swapping sailor stories and getting a bunch of local knowledge regarding good anchorages.
