It was still raining in the morning, but the forecast was otherwise good for continuing NW along Banks Island. To start, we retraced our route to the east up Gillespie Channel back to Estevan Sound, where we once again turned NW and then moved into Nepean Sound and finally into Principe Channel. Although the rain persisted throughout most of the day, the wind was light, so we motored all day. Late in the afternoon, the rain finally stopped and about 19:00, most unexpectedly, so did the engine, when we were still about 10 miles from our day's destination, with no viable alternatives near. Our immediate efforts to get the engine restarted were not successful, so, rather than waste the remaining daylight, we accepted a tow from "Massilia". We finally pulled into Larsen Harbour and tied up to a mooring ball at 20:45. After a quick dinner, with John's assistance, we spent the evening trying to figure out what was the issue with the engine. We cleaned the air filter, checked and cleaned the fuel filter and bled all the fuel lines, but were unable to get the engine to start. We finally gave up at 01:45 and went to bed reeking of diesel; the Admiral was not too keen to share her bunk with me, I can tell you, but I was too exhausted to brook any further discussion. Not sure what tomorrow will bring, as we are planning to cross 65 nautical miles of the Hecate Strait to Queen Charlotte Islands.
