The forecast for today was good last night, so we were up at 05:00 to be ready for the long run around Cape Caution; the forecast still looked good for our first major relatively exposed crossing. After breakfast, we slipped our mooring lines at God's Pocket and motored out to Christie Passage, turned north and then, once round the corner of Balaklava Island turned NW into Gordon Channel,. The course took us north of Pine Island, along Europa Passage to the south of the Storm Islands. We gave Cape Caution a wide berth, as their may be rough water as the long Pacific swells shoal up on the shallows that extend a mile or so out from the Cape. The wind remained calm all day, so we motored the whole way. After rounding Cape Caution, we turned slightly to starboard and headed into Alexandra Passage, passing to the east of Egg Island and leaving Table Island to starboard. At Dugout Rocks, the course turned slightly to the east of north. We turned into Breaker Passage and anchored in a lovely anchorage tucked behind Fury Island, which is off the western side of Penrose Island. "Massilia" rafted alongside; we were all settled in by 14:30. The kids immediately jumped in the dinghies and kayaks to explore the bay and surrounding islets. Fury Island has a nice stretch of soft, white sand beach. A short walk to the other side of the island offers spectacular views to the west across Darby Channel to Cape Calvert and the southern end of Calvert Island. We celebrated our successful rounding of the notorious Cape Caution and enjoyed our first night at anchor. The skies were mostly clear and we enjoyed breathtaking views of the stars in this remote spot, with absolutely no light pollution other than our own anchor light.

It was so lovely here, that we decided to stay for a whole day and further decompress from the stresses and strains of getting up here and getting started. The weather was gorgeous and we took advantage of the warm tide pools along the beach to wash our hair and bodies. In the evening, the kids gathered driftwood and we had a small bonfire on the beach after dinner.
