After our exciting night, we headed out about 8:30 for Morgan City. Starting to get into the cypress swamps now, so the scenery is changing. Still seeing lots of ospreys and quite a few bald eagles, but no alligators. Cold, damp and generally unpleasant in the cockpit, although the wind was not so bad. We tied up at the Morgan City public dock at about 1:30, and had a nice walk around town. About 16:00, the sun came out and later treated us to the most glorious sunset in a long time. As we were coming back to the dock, we were surprised to see another sailboat pulling under the train bridge and headed toward us. “Longhawk” is a Beneteau 43, a 2 years younger version of our boat, manned by Sam and Pat Crowder, a couple of our (ahem) generation, heading out on more or less the same adventure as us. They are from another yacht club on Clear Lake. Now, we have a new set of friends and traveling companions. Terri and I had dinner at Rita Mae’s Kitchen, Morgan City’s best soul food place - and very nice it was, too.
