Up early this morning to catch the last of the morning flood; at least that was the plan. We did get the engine going at 08:25 and finally got the anchor up and cleaned up by 08:50; very muddy anchorage this. The Waccamaw River loomed up about 09:15 and we continued north on this beautiful stretch of river; it is even prettier today than on Monday. Prince Creek came up on the right about 11:00 and we nosed in, although there was plenty of water all the way along. In fact, we had to hunt to find a place shallow enough to keep the anchor scope short enough that we do not rub up against the bank when the tide current changes. This is a gorgeous anchorage, completely surrounded by pine, cypress and deciduous trees, some of whom are starting to show their fall colors. As Monet would say “ah, the light, the light”; sorry to be repetitive, but this is just wonderful. Plus, the evening swims are spiced up by the presence of alligators. We saw at least two today (or perhaps the same one twice), plus an otter and a big raccoon during our afternoon venture in the kayaks.

“Wild” caught Atlantic salmon for dinner.

Prince Creek is such a pretty anchorage, we decided to stay another day. We took the kayaks for a long paddle in the opposite direction and even poked up into a couple of small, overhung creeks, but did not see any more gators. A passing fisherman commented that he thought we were nuts to go up these small creeks, “‘cause you never know what is around the next corner”. Cue the “Deliverance” theme. But we somehow survived.
