PS from yesterday: it was a “super-est moon” last night - i.e., the moon was at perigee and it was full, so it was really big and bright at the anchorage. We slept like logs, rocked to sleep all night long. At 10:00 we popped the anchor out and headed toward Onset, with the stretch goal of shooting the Cape Cod Canal in the late afternoon, if we made our mid-way goals. And we did. We passed through Rhode Island Sound, crossed the border into Massachusetts, passed Naragansett Bay entrance, passed Cuttyhunk Island and Woods Hole, MA, and hit the west end of the Cape Cod Canal at 16:30, just at low water slack. The wind was favorable, but not strong enough for us to maintain 6.5 knots SOG, especially since we were fighting 1.0 to 2.0 knots of current for a fair portion of the route. So, we motor-sailed the whole way and even managed to get the spinnaker up for the last hour before we hit the canal. The run through the canal was uneventful, although at the end we had 3 kn of fair current, arriving at Sandwich Marina at 17:30. 54.3 N-miles covered, over the ground; 63.3 N-m through the water - all in just under 8 hours. Not a bad day’s travel. After docktails, we had dinner at Pilot House, which was significantly nicer than Bill’s Seafood in Westbrook, but that is all I’m going to say. 41-46.298’N, 070-30.175’W.
