At the risk of sounding boring, it is another beautiful day: clear, low 70’s, light wind. We pushed away from the dock at 09:55 and headed back out into Long Island Sound. We passed by New London, CT, and although we had originally planned to pass through Fishers Island Sound, I looked at the tidal flows again and decided to head through The Race between Little Gull I. and Fishers I. The current was bubbling and you could see the rips to the SW of Valiant Rock, but we passed NE of the rock without incident, picking up a couple of knots of fair tidal current for a little while. The winds were light all day and we again motor-sailed the whole way to Pt. Judith, RI., where we anchored for the night with 12 or 15 other boats. The anchorage is behind a “V” shaped breakwater outside the entrance to Pt. Judith Pond, so it is a bit rolly from the wakes of ferries and power boats coming and going, but it all stops at night. We cooked dinner aboard; much better than the fare at most coastal restaurants. There is a cold front approaching on Tuesday evening, so we are going to try to make it all the way to Onset (west end of the Cape Cod Canal) tomorrow; that will leave us an easy passage to Provincetown, MA (on the northern tip of the Cape Cod peninsula) on Tuesday. 41-21.515’N, 71-30.446’W (new northing and new easting, again; this will be the norm for the next few weeks).
