It got down to 46 F last night or at least that is as low as our thermometer registers, and was about that temperature inside the boat this morning, so neither of us wanted to be the first to get out of bed. But arise we finally did. After breakfast, it was time for a run to shore for showers (best showers on the Maine coast, in my opinion) and last minute grocery shopping. We dropped the mooring lines just after 10:00 and headed south and west to Isle au Haut. Along the way we dodged about a million lobster pots, but still had a very close encounter with one; I don’t think we caught the wire, though, as it eventually popped up behind us. We picked up a mooring ball at Isle au Haut Thorofare at 14:25. As we put the engine into neutral at idle, it seemed to me that there is a new, unusual vibration coming from somewhere, but I cannot figure out where; guess I will get a real mechanic to check it out when we get to Portland or somewhere. It was time for an oil, oil filter and fuel filter change on the main engine, so I tackled that after lunch, but it took nearly all afternoon (ah, the joys of repairs and maintenance in exotic locations). Cell-phone reception is so poor I cannot even update our blog, so that will have to wait. We went for a short walk on the island (most of which is part of the Acadia National Park (same as MDI), but there is no town and only a few houses, so we came back to the boat for happy hour. Salmon for dinner aboard. Oh yeah, it’s my 61st birthday today. Never felt better, except for my knees. 44-04.456’, 068-38.360’W
