Last night, it was so cold on the boat, that we went to bed just after 21:00, just to keep warm, and slept like logs under 5 quilts. It rained a bit during the night and was still raining when we got up, so we left as soon as we had finished breakfast, and headed over to Vinalhaven. The cruise to Vinalhaven was only 13 miles, but, even though it looks quite pretty, as it was still raining when we got there, we decided to just press on to Port Clyde. There are about a hundred good anchorages around Vinalhaven, so we will be back. At Port Clyde, we picked up a mooring ball operated by the Port Clyde General Store, and then went into town for a walk. This is a sleepy little working port with a lot of lobster boats based here. Like the rest of Maine, most of the houses seem to be vacation rentals, which are mostly empty now. There are 3 or 4 restaurants in town, but only one of them - the Dip Net - seems to be still open this late in the year. After our walk, we got back to the boat in time for happy hour. Dinner aboard. The sun dropped below the clouds for about 20 minutes before it set, resulting in a beautiful sunset; the evening light on the town was lovely. Cell service is bad again; cannot tune in the internet, so I guess the blog will have to wait another day. 43-55.485’N, 068-15.638’W.
