I finished reading Farley Mowat’s “The Farfarers” last night. There is convincing evidence that people of European heritage were living in Labrador and Newfoundland more than 400 years before Columbus “discovered” America; good read. The dawn was cool, but mostly clear, so a good day for moving on to Christmas Cove. We had a lovely breakfast in the “solarium”. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: this cockpit enclosure is the best investment we have made on this boat. The mooring was dropped at 11:00 and we motored away through the islands of Muscongus Bay, up through Friendship Harbor, and down along the west side of the bay, past Pemaquid Pt and across the mouth of Johns Bay. We then turned right up the Damariscotta River and pulled into Christmas Cove, where we picked up a mooring buoy at Coveside Inn and Marina. The is a picture-postcard-perfect Maine town, although running pretty slow at the end of the season. We went for a long walk around “town” and there are very few people around and absolutely nothing going on; but very pretty. Back to the boat in time for happy hour and dinner aboard. We have now been in Maine for 1 month. 43-50.870’N, 069-33.294’W.
