Up with the dawn-ish, which mercifully comes somewhat later than a few weeks ago. We breakfasted, showered, shopped (last minute fruit), watered, pumped out, fueled up and finally got away from the dock just after noon. Hope we do not have to repeat that (somewhat expensive) experience again too soon. We did the 24 miles to Saco, ME, motoring all the way in a light southerly breeze, up the Saco River in just under 4 hours and were tied up at the Saco Yacht Club transient mooring by 16:00. The 5 mile run up the Saco River was beautiful and passed by in just a few minutes. The folks at the YC were very welcoming and friendly. After checking in with the YC (we are the 7th transient guest this year), we had a lovely walk around this old mill town; back in the hey-day of the industrial revolution, there were two huge (multiple 100s of thousands of square feet) textile mills here, both powered by the consistent Saco River, which falls 47 feet here (we will be lulled to sleep tonight by the sound the water running down the face of the dam and through the old mill works. We had a beer and a glass of wine at the “Run of the Mill” pub/restaurant, then got back to the boat for BBQ’d salmon. Good to be back on the move again. 43-29.634’N, 070-26.662’W.
