22 May 17

It was cold again last night and only 49 F when we got up about 07:00. We were underway at 08:30. It started to rain about the time we pulled away from the dock and rained off and on for most of the day. Lock 18 was no problem, but the lockmaster advised that Lock 19 was suffering “issues” and was closed at present. So, we stopped at a marina in Ilion, NY and topped up the fuel tank, but decided to press on. We were standing by at Lock 19 at 11:30 and finally locked in at 13:35. Only one more lock and then we finally pulled into the free Rome Municipal Dock at 17:15, too late, once again, to visit Fort Stanwix; maybe tomorrow. On the other hand, the forecast for tomorrow looks good for a crossing of Lake Oneida, so we will probably get up early and go for it; I’ll just have to drive back to Fort Stanwix some other time - c’est la vie. We parked right between “Monarch” and “Element” (nee “Promises”), a Grand Banks 42 recently purchased by the new owner Stirling in Baltimore; he is headed home to Michigan.

Dinner aboard and early to bed.
