For a change, the dawn broke clear and calm - absolutely gorgeous. We were up early and had the hook up by 08:00 and, after saying goodbye to “Soul Mate” and “Swallow”, we departed in company with “Islandia” en route for Kagawong, on Manitoulin Island. We tied up to the town dock for a couple of hours and walked up to see Bridal Veil Falls, the local hospital (which has a pulpit made from the bow of a wooden boat) and the chocolate factory. After lunch, we got underway again about 13:30 and made our way to Clapperton Harbour, on the SW side of Clapperton Island. Once there, I changed the oil and filter on the main engine and we enjoyed watching a pair of loons parading around the harbor with a pair of young ones in tow. Diane from “Islandia” paddled over to Harbour Island, former site of the Harbour Island Yacht and Fishing Club, a retreat for American executives, now abandoned and fallen into disrepair. While paddling near the shore, she saw a bear wandering around.
