We were up early again; not too surprising as I went to bed about 20:30 last night. We are both on edge because of the aftermath of TS Harvey in Houston; more of our friends are flooding out as the waters continue to rise. We have already loaned out both of our cars and our house is rapidly turning into a evacuation center for friends needing a bed for a few nights. But at least we are able to do something to help. The engine was purring and the dock lines were dropped by 08:30. We motor-sailed (again) in NW 7 winds all the way to Port Washington, and tied up there at 12:20. The Dockside Deli beckoned for lunch, so we obliged. Afterward, we walked through downtown and then on up Wisconsin Street for 1.7 miles to Sentry Groceries for a bit of shopping. The walk home was very pleasant along the “Ozaukee Interurban Trail”. To celebrate this trek, we had a pint at the Sir James Pub, then made it back to the boat in time for happy hour and dinner aboard. Port Washington is a lovely little (pop. 11,266) town, with a nice downtown; there are a few pubs, coffee shops, a bicycle shop and boutiques on the main street. It rained a bit later in the evening.

We slept in this morning, catching up on the last few nights of troubled sleep. Having nothing much to do today, we did that. The morning was spent communicating with friends and relatives in Houston and a bit of boat clean-up. In changing out a propane bottle, I discovered that the O-ring, on the end of the feeder hose at the tank, was looking a bit ratty, so I unlimbered the bicycle and rode up to True Value Hardware to purchase a few spares. The gear change cable on my bike is completely rusted through, so I was stuck in 2nd gear, and the folding pedal spring is broken, so the left pedal kept wanting to fold up, which makes it a bit hard to pedal; must be about time for a new bike. The Admiral got her hair done and then walked all the way back up to Sentry’s for some more groceries (and to get her steps in). I spent the afternoon cleaning up more bird and spider poop spots and checking the propane system for tightness. The wind blew NE 18 all afternoon, so it was a bit cool outside, but at least it did not rain.
