Happy anniversary USA!! Hope we can make it through another 241 years. Anyway, we slept in till 08:30, then slowly got ourselves moving. It was a beautiful day in paradise, so we finally got under way just before 10:30. After topping up the fuel tank and emptying the HTs (holding tanks), we were off. First order of business was to swing the compass (again), this time successfully; for the first time this trip, Otto is behaving himself and COG and heading agree (within a few degrees anyway). It seems that the problem was with a small, portable backgammon set (with magnetic chips) that happened to have been stored on the bulkhead just opposite the flux-gate compass. We made a swing by Flowerpot Island to see the famed “flowerpot” formations and snap a few photos. Then, it was on to Wingfield Basin at the extreme NE corner of the Bruce Peninsula. This is a lovely bullet-proof bay, where we anchored a cable away from “Ursa Major II” a Legend 40.5, manned by Rob, Victoria (another lovely couple) and their friend Ann. We rowed ashore for a look at the Cabot Head Lighthouse, now closed up, but after an extensive search, were unable to locate Wingfield Farm - must be in another part of Ontario. And then came back to the boat for a quick swim (64.5 F; a bit chilly for me, but very refreshing, especially as it is fresh water). Later, we joined “Ursa Major II” for happy hour, and had an excellent couple of hours discussing boat stuff and swapping yarns. Then came back to the boat for a quick swim (68F, so I was not in long) dinner aboard and off to bed to be ready for our sprint across Georgian Bay to North Go Home Bay - more on that tomorrow.
