We slept in again until well past 08:00; such decadence. We were under way by 09:30 and back headed north-bound on the small craft channel by 10:00. Just half an hour later, passing San Souci, we turned to starboard at Laundry Bay and headed up into the Moon River Area, where there are dozens of secluded anchorages to sample. A lot of this area is part of the Massassauga Provincial Park. We motored all the way up to Port Rawson Bay, which is as far up into this inlet as we can go, and headed over to the reputed best place to anchor. But apparently, everyone else had got the same memo; there were already 6 power boats anchored in the prime spot and one of them informed us that another 30 were headed up there for the weekend, replete with kids, boom boxes, ski-doos, and other excitements, with plans to party hardy and late. So, we moved over to Gilman Bay, where, at least to begin with, we are all alone in a very pretty little bay. After spending the afternoon here, we are agreed that this is the best anchorage of the year and one of the best ever; it is absolutely gorgeous, totally bullet-proof, with good holding - it reminds us of BC. After lunch we went for a nice long row - 4 or 5 miles - along the North Channel and into Portage Cove; some high-dollar “cottages” along there. When we got back, there was a bit of a breeze, so I kitted up “Swallow” and went for a nice sail around Gilman Bay in very light/flukey winds. Happy hour and dinner aboard listening to the Allman Brothers and Capercaillie and watching the thunderstorms brew up off to the north and south; there are few things more gratifying than watching thunderstorms way off in the distance (and not threatening or charging down upon one).
