A thunderstorm rolled through last night about 11:30, after we went to bed. But the anchor held and we were soon fast asleep. We awoke to a beautiful, clear day, although a bit cooler than the last few days. We had a long debate as to whether to stay at Gilman Bay or move on to another anchorage, but finally decided to move a few miles to Ruddy Island, just for a change. The anchor was up just after 11:00 and we were anchored at Ruddy I. at 12:30. After lunch, we rowed over to the portage trail and took a short walk over to Spider Lake. On the way, we came across a group of YMCA campers/canoeists - young boys 12 - 14 years old, along with a couple of adult leaders and teenage counselors - portaging their stuff and canoes the other direction. After we got back to the boat, I decided to tackle the forward head toilet, which has not been emptying very efficiently for the last few weeks. The flapper valve is cloven nearly in two; its amazing it works at all. Unfortunately, I do not have a spare for this part. After trying, unsuccessfully, to effect a temporary repair using duct tape, we have had to take the forward toilet out of commission until replacement parts can be obtained. It is definitely good to have redundancy on a boat, especially toilets. Actually, we do have a bucket on board, just in case both toilets crapped out (so to speak) simultaneously. However, the Admiral assures me that this would be grounds for instant mutiny and ship abandonment. I had my fingernails cleaned up in time for happy hour and dinner aboard.
