The front came through in the night, as forecast, and gave us a bit of rain and the wind piped up and went round to the NW. Forecast for today is NW 18 - 20, which is brisk, but coming off the shore, will not have much fetch, so the sea-state should be tolerable. And we will commence the “Inside Passage” just as we depart Liscomb Harbour. We got the stern anchor up without any trouble, simply by backing down over it by slacking off the bow anchor. Once the stern anchor was up, we retrieved the bow anchor in the conventional manner, and took off down the Liscomb River. After we got to a wider part of the river, we slowed down, stowed the Fortress anchor and rode, and lashed the dinghy up in the chocks. Then, we sailed under jib alone down the last five miles of the Liscomb River and Harbour. After we rounded the point opposite Liscomb Lighthouse, we reduced the jib by 3 wraps and sailed hard on the wind into the Inside Passage. However, as this is a narrow route and lots of zigs and zags and with the wind gusting up to 28 knots and close-hauled, we soon furled the sail and motored the rest of the way to Hartlings Island anchorage, arriving at 12:00. On the way, we passed Mad Moll Rock and Ecum Secum, NS; I love the name of that town and must find out the origin or meaning of the name. We anchored in 27 ft of water, just after high tide and let out 110 ft of chain with the anchor. We were all settled in the lee of High Island and having lunch by 12:20. Although the wind gusted up to 28 kn several times during the afternoon, we were snug as bugs, and it was a time for crafts, reading and light routine maintenance, while we waited for this front to blow on through and calm down a bit, hopefully by tomorrow. By dark, the wind had died down to nothing.
