The wind came up a bit from the NE during the night, which put it right on the stern, so we were awakened about 05:00 by the wavelets slapping on the hull. I was not feeling all that great anyway, so I got up and started the generator so we could run the heater and take the chill off the 41 F morning. After breakfast, we walked into town to Dastardly Dicks to have some of his wicked good coffee and access his WiFi. Reassured by a good cuppa Joe and undated forecasts, we came back and started up the engine and got away from the dock just after 09:00, just before HW at Eastport. We rode the ebb down Head Harbour Passage, round East Quoddy Head and turned SW down the coast in Grand Manan Channel with the wind and the tide behind us, headed for Roque Island anchorage. Once out in the channel, we had 3 - 4 kn of following tidal current and toyed for a while with the idea of pushing on to Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island. But, as the tidal current slacked off at the southern end of Grand Manan, we realized we would not make it to NE Harbor until well after dark. However, we did push on a bit to Mistake Island, thus leaving only 34 N-miles to go to NE Harbor tomorrow. We were anchored in Mistake Island cove by 15:15. The only other boat in there when we anchored left shortly after we got settled; hope is was not something we said or did. This is a neat little anchorage only a mile off the rhumb line between Eastport and NE Harbor, except for the 150 or so lobster pots (which make it a challenge to find room to anchor and swing; well, it is Maine, after all), protected by several little islands from the wide open North Atlantic. After we got settled in, a helicopter buzzed us and the anchorage 4 or 5 times; no idea what he was up to. Happy hour and dinner aboard, then early to bed.
