Up early, we motored across West Penobscot Bay to Rockland, arriving at 09:30. We immediately started prepping the boat for the scheduled haul-out on Friday. We rented a car, made 3 trips to Hamilton Marine, cleaned up the boat, changed oil and filters, fuel filters, and impellers on the main engine and generator, but both of them fought back (chasing a broken impeller arm on the generator and a twisted off machine screw on the main engine impeller case) and it took all afternoon to complete these two tasks, and completed winterizing the generator. After happy hour and dinner aboard, we started getting ready for bed, when all of a sudden at 21:00, we heard the Travel-lift fire up and run out on the end of the haul-out slip right beside us (WTF?!?). A fishing boat came in hot and fast and with obvious (big-time) damage to the bow. He had run up onto a breakwater at Matinicus Island (apparently at speed) and knocked a BIG hole in the bow; OUCH and oops. They immediately ran the boat up on the beach and implemented temporary repairs (plastic sheeting backed up by 1/4” plywood screwed through the hull, supplemented with several cans of expanding foam to plug the hole). Then, in company with 2 or 3 buddy boats (fellow fishermen), they mad a quick run over to Rockland for an emergency haul-out; there was a lot of water in the boat when they finally made it in. After the fishermen and their wives all went home and it quieted down, we went to bed. Last night on the boat for 2015.

Up early to finish pre-haul-out preps: did laundry, fueled up, pumped-out, stripped canvas, dropped and flaked the jib, and winterized fresh-water, bilge, A/C, refrigerator, and both heads. Finally, we hauled the dinghy up on the dock and stripped off the davit falls. We moved off the boat and into the Trade Winds Motel. After happy hour in the hotel room, we had dinner at 3 Crows restaurant, a favorite from last year. Early to bed after watching the Astros build up a 4 - 2 lead after 6.5 innings (they won 5 - 2, after I went to sleep).
