More rain during the night, so we (or at least I) ended up sleeping in until 08:00. We got away from the dock about 09:15 and motored another 24 N-miles, through 2 locks, to Rome, NY, where we tied up at their free dock about 14:00. We were going to go into town for a look at Fort Stanwix, but a nasty looking rain cloud blew up and we decided to sit tight for a while, which was just as well as it soon started to pour and rained hard for an hour. The guys on “Sueno”, who were parked next to us last night, passed us about 15:00, on their way to Sylvan Lake. Then, about 15:15, “Significant Other” arrived and parked right behind us. After the rain stopped, we walked up and had a look at the Fort Stanwix replica, which had already closed for the day. When we got back to the boat, another sail-boat (“Quiddity”) had parked in front of us; owned by an expat Brit from Buffalo and two Canadian friends, who were along as crew at least through the Erie Canal. We had a great time chatting with them. After dinner, Dave and Deb from “Significant Other” and Richard, Dan and Neil from “Quiddity” dropped by for a drink and a chat. We had a grand old time and eventually solved all the problems of the world, but, as usual, no one was taking notes, so I guess we will have to do it again some time.
