Reluctantly, we got the anchor up just after 09:00 and departed Deep Bay. Through Bull Passage, we turned due south to avoid WG military practice area, which was active today; “Massilia” headed west to skirt WG on the north side, but we want to stop in at Telegraph Cove for a bit of Christmas shopping. The wind was SE9, so we got the jib and main up, but continued to motor so we could make the turn to ebb at Dodd Narrows at 13:45. After we reached the SW corner of WG near Ballenas Island, we turned ESE toward Nanaimo Roads. Naturally, we had to dodge the Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay (Nanaimo) ferry, which came storming in just as we got to their route. A few minutes later, we had to evade the Duke Point to Tswassen ferry, which pulled out just as we were coming up to their route. We got to the Dodd Narrows about 10 minutes before the turn to ebb, then had a nice run down to Telegraph Cove, where we tied up at 15:30. The store was closed when we arrived, but they opened it up so the Admiral could stock up on ear-rings for various daughters, daughters-in-law and/or friends. We pulled out after only 15 minutes and carried on through Houston Passage to Conover Cove, a marine park on Wallace Island, where we anchored at 17:30. “Massilia” came alongside about 19:00 and we had dinner as the sun set.
