Well, it was a struggle, but we finally managed to get out of Vancouver; not that we were actually in much of a hurry to leave. After a couple of final loading trips to the marina, and a bit of last minute shopping at Granville Island Public Market, and even though the wind was on the nose, we pulled out of the False Creek Yacht Club at 16:00. Because of our late start and because it had been windy (and therefore, lumpy) earlier during the day, we decided not to cross the Strait of Georgia and headed NW up the coast to Gibsons. The wind was light and on the nose the whole way, so we motored. Along the way, we hailed “Massilia” on the VHF to discuss some matter; a couple of minutes later, we had a phone call from our Houston friends, Bob and Cheyen, to say they had heard our boat name on the VHF from Sucia Island, about 40 miles away. They are on a charter boat roaming around the San Juans. It was a bit lumpy and we pounded into rather steep seas until we rounded Cape Roger Curtis at the southwest corner of Bowen Island, we turned north up into Howe Sound to get out of the chop and to enjoy the beautiful scenery a bit better. We pulled into the Gibsons Marina just after 19:00 and after cocktails with John, we all went up to Gramma’s Marine Pub for dinner. Then, it was early to bed after an exhausting nine days in Vancouver.
