We struggled out at about 07:30 and got ready to go. But first, we changed the primary fuel filter element, did a major grocery shop, made a quick run to West Marine and had a final (I hope) visit from the North Island Boatworks tech, who brought out a software update for the chart plotter. After this was fully downloaded, the chart plotter worked just fine. We are back in cruising business again. After stowing away all the grub, we finally got away from the dock just before 13:00, topped up the fuel tank on the way out of the marina and headed west. John and Laurie advised they will not make Friday Harbor today, so we decided to stop off at Spencer Spit Marine Park, where we picked up a mooring ball just before 16:00. We are the only boat here, unlike the last time we were here some 10 or 12 years ago, when the place was packed. We may be early in the season, mid week; or, maybe everyone is scared of the forecast. The wind is forecast to get up a bit tonight, but we are on the lee side of the island on a big mooring ball and should be fine. We rowed ashore to pay the mooring fee and take a walk around the salt marsh, then back to the boat in time for happy hour. It is nice to be away from the marina again; nice and quiet here.
