Dawn did not come early today, after yesterday’s long drive, so we had a nice lie-in. Plus, we were waiting for the remnants of tropical storm Imelda to stop dumping lots of rain on Houston. We finally got away from Eileen’s and headed south at 11:15. The traffic headed south on I-45 was very light, at least compared to our normal travel days around Thanksgiving. And everything was fine until we got to Huntsville at about 14:45; Mapquest was showing our travel time as more than 2 hours (normally, it would be less than 1 hour). We stopped for a bite to eat and the TV was showing I-45 closed at the Loop 610 intersection, as was TX 249. It looked like we could not get home, at least for several hours, so we decided to just find a hotel in Huntsville and wait until the morning. I am so glad to be getting back to the hurricane-prone, malarial swamps of Houston. Fortunately, all of our friends and relatives in and around Houston are all OK.
