The dawn was clear, warm and calm. The crew of “Pittsburgh Nelly” were up early to make sure they could get through the tide gates at 2nd and 1st Narrows before the turn to flood at 15:30; they left us just after 09:00. Being faster and having no dog to take ashore periodically, we loitered over breakfast, but finally got going about 10:00. There was no wind at all, so we motored slowly all the way down Indian Arm, looking into every nook and cranny along the way. We shot through 2nd Narrows at 9.6 kn and shouldered our way across a lumpy and very busy Vancouver Harbour, passing under Lions Gate Bridge and through 1st Narrows at 13:30, doing 7.8 kn. We tied up at our old slot (B-26) at False Creek Fisherman’s Wharf by 14:20. “Pittsburgh Nelly”, tied up nearby, beat us to the dock by about 15 minutes and waved us in. After cleaning up the boat and ourselves, Michael stopped by and gave us a ride to John and Laurie’s house, where we had dinner with the whole family and both girlfriends, J1 and J2. We stopped by Steveston Marine on the way and I bought a replacement fairlead block for the foresail furling line (the old one has given up the ghost). Mike and J2 gave us a ride back to the boat after dinner. Alone again, for a couple of days. Jake arrives Wednesday.

After an early breakfast, I removed the old furling fairlead block and installed the replacement. Today is a provisioning and laundry day. After all that good fun, I spent a few minutes starting to install child-proof safety netting to encourage our grandchild to visit; to look good and properly salty, the installation process is more of an art than a science, so this may take a while. Just as I got going, Laurie called and invited us back to their house for dinner, then came and collected us. The four of us had a great time and an excellent meal, after which, the Admiral and I road the bus back to the marina and were in bed at midnight.
