John woke us up at 07:20 when he started his engine to get going to Cadboro Bay to make a lunch date with his mom. After we got them away, the Admiral and I went back to bed and had a glorious lie-in. When we finally got out to the cockpit at 10:30, I could not see “Massilia” on the AIS so I sent John a text. He replied a few minutes later on the VHF; I did not see their AIS signal as I was looking the wrong way. They had gone about a mile out into the Strait of Juan de Fuca and after encountering gusts to 36 knots and square waves, decided to turn around and go to Canoe Cove via Spieden Channel at the north end of San Juan Island. After our breakfast, we finally got going just before noon and sailed all the way back to Friday Harbor under jib alone. We pumped out the HTs on the way in and were tied up at the dock by 14:30. After a late lunch, I changed out the flapper valve in the aft head toilet, which was backing up a bit. Then, we walked into town and bought new flares (the old ones were a year out of date) and a replacement toilet kit. Happy hour and dinner aboard.
