We were up at the crack of 07:30 and immediately commenced getting the anchor up. We were under way at 08:30 and enjoyed a nice, warm breakfast on the go. All the fishing boats and one of the pleasure craft had already left by the time we got up this morning, although we never heard a sound. The wind was practically calm out in Salisbury Sound, so we headed up the west coast of Chichagof Island, about 2/3 of the way to the entry to Khaz Bay, we came upon a group of 6 or 7 sport fishing boats (not to mention the commercial fishermen that were all about), so I figured this was a good place to slow down and dip the hook in the water. The lure was in the water no more than a minute, when we got a hit. When we pulled it up, it was a nice big (18” long) rockfish. After we hauled it in an dispatched it and stored it in a bucket of cold seawater, we decided to skip Double Cove (our original target for the day) and head on over to Mirror Harbor. We took the inside route via Rough Channel, Smooth Channel (where we slowed down long enough for me to butcher the fish, which we will have for dinner), on through Surveyor Passage and into Portlock Harbor. About here, I started looking at the detailed entry directions for entering Mirror Harbor and realized we need to go in at HW slack, which will occur at 20:42 this evening or 09:59 tomorrow morning. With that info, we turned to Pinta Bay and anchored at the head of the inlet, probably for the night. It is only 8.8 N-m from here to Mirror Harbor, so we will plan to leave at about 08:20 tomorrow to hit the entry just before HW slack. Terri cooked our fresh rockfish for dinner; it was delicious. Ashley and I continued to work on our song list; she is really getting pretty good, especially since she has only been playing for a few days.
