We awoke before the alarm went off at 07:00 and started getting ready for the off. The forecast is still the same: SE 5-15, increasing to SE15-25 in the afternoon. We helped Ashley up to her car just after 08:00 and she headed for Seattle. We were away from the dock at 08:15 and motored out into English Bay. We were past Pt. Grey at 09:05 and into the Strait of Georgia, where the wind was NE 17; must have been a down-channel wind from Howe Sound. By the time we were halfway across the Strait, the wind was SE 8-10. We powered through Gabriola Passage against the last of the flood tide at 12:01 (SOG as low as 4.2 kn) and were anchored in Pirates Cove at 12:35. There was only one other transient boat (“Schatzi”) anchored in the cove and we are both swinging, in anticipation of tonight’s blow; forecast is SE 25-35 early tomorrow morning. The Astros were swept by Kansas City, the team with the worst record in the American League, and are now 2.5 games behind the Rangers for the lead in the AL West, although still ahead of Seattle in the Wild Card Race; a pathetic end to the season, unless they pull their collective heads out of their asses. It clouded up in the afternoon and started raining about 17:00; the wind was up a bit, but still less than forecast, at least here within the Gulf Islands. Tomorrow’s forecast remains SE 25-35.
