We decided to move on to Plumper Cove today, so we were up about 08:00. We had the hook up by 10:06 and were underway in a glassy sea, wind SE 2, visibility limited to 3 - 4 miles by smoke. At 11:20, we spotted a couple of whales about 1/2 mile off; they both sounded so we had a good look at their tails, but neither one of us got a photo. Then, about 12:10, I spotted what I thought was a couple of logs dead ahead. I was just about to maneuver to avoid the logs, when I realized they were two whales asleep on the surface. I immediately shut down the engine and we coasted by them, perhaps 20 feet away as they slept on; we got lots of photos of these two, but they were not doing anything but bobbing up and down gently on the surface and taking a breath about every 30 seconds or so - magic. After we had coasted a couple of hundred meters beyond them, I fired up the engine and we carried on, arriving at Plumper Cove, where we picked up a mooring ball at 15:15. After I went ashore to pay the mooring fee, we settled in for a quiet evening; Terri is not feeling too chipper, so we just took it easy - hope it’s not Covid-19. I thought I had a reservation to haul-out on the 28th, but my calendar says the 27th, so I called Skyline just to be sure; it is the 27th at 08:30. To be safe, I changed our reservations at Cap Sante to start on the 22nd. If they find a spot for us on the 24th (so we don’t have to leave for a day), we may push back our arrival until the 23rd. We heard back from Roger in Portland that they both have Covid-19, so we have decided to skip Portland and just head straight east for Cody, where we plan to visit my cousin Francis.
