Another day in paradise. After last night’s celebrations, we slept in a bit, but were up just after 08:00. After breakfast, John and I paid our moorage bills, then had a bit of a chat about the plans for the next few days. Massilia is still losing a bit of oil (apparently from a leaky (new) oil filter), plus they have some issues to deal with regarding their insurance claim for the flood that J1 caused at their house, so he is anxious to get back to Vancouver asap. We decided to head toward Squitty Bay (at the south end of Lasqueti Island, as we have never been there and it has some good write-ups (according to John; Active Captain only gives it 3 stars). Anyway, we got underway about 10:45. Massilia had to collect the prawn trap they deployed outside of Deep Bay, so we dawdled along for nearly an hour. They finally got underway, but by then we were 5 miles ahead of them. So, we diverted a little bit to go between Jenkins Island and the west coast of Lasqueti, then stuck our head in at Graveyard Bay (it is a neat looking anchorage that we can use in the future, if the wind is not SE), then pulled into Squitty Bay. It is a 10-boat government dock that had 10 boats tied up, all rafted 2-deep, so we would have been 3rd boat out. They were all a bit manky-looking, so we decided to move on; we barely had room in this tiny bay to turn around - I ended up doing a 7-point turn to get round. Since the wind is predicted to get up a bit from the NW tonight, we decided to give our usual stop of Deep Bay a miss (after last year’s near disaster) and try either Home Bay or Codfish Bay. Somebody else was already anchored in Home Bay, so we went into Codfish Bay, where we anchored in 8 m of water and took a stern line ashore; I think we will be fine here, plus we have never, in all our times at Jedediah Island, anchored on this (east) side of the island. Massilia came alongside about 17:30. We had Captain’s Hour and dinner immediately afterward.

A year ago today, we were trying to de-mouse the boat (without success). John and Laurie were up early this morning to head back toward Vancouver. They got away about 08:15 after a brief goodbye (we will be seeing them again in a few days), and we are blissfully alone in Codfish Bay. After breakfast, we spent the morning reading the news, reading “Gates of Europe”, and trying to solve the NYT Spelling Bee. After lunch, we went for a long walk on Jedediah Island. There was nobody anchored in Home Bay and only two boats anchored in Deep Bay, although there was a late arrival to White Rock Cove (on the NE side of the island), so we had the place nearly to ourselves. Jedediah is such a peaceful and tranquil place; I just love it here. And we are really pleased with our anchorage at Codfish Bay, although I would not want to be here in a SE blow; on the other hand I do not want to be in Deep Bay in a NW blow, so you have to pick your anchorage based on the weather forecast. Today, it did not matter at all, but we enjoyed our solitary anchorage just the same. We got back to the boat about 16:00 and I spent a bit of time working on the winterization/decommissioning plan. We have changed our tickets at Bard on the Beach to the nights of the 16th and 17th, so I moved up our reservations for False Creek Fisherman’s Wharf to 15 - 18 Sep. I also moved up our haul-out date to the morning of the 28th, so we will need to be in Anacortes by the 23rd or so to do all the prep work. We touched base with Roger and Catherine to make sure we could stop by their place in Portland on the night of the 28th; all good. Only a few more days left of this year’s season.
