Barter Bay is another rolly anchorage, but we slept well and awoke to a beautiful, high overcast, warm dawn. It is a beautiful anchorage, surrounded by First Nations islands, one of which is a very sacred burial ground; it is so sacred, in fact, that the local guardians informed us that if we were to go aground there, they would not come to our assistance. Anyway, we decided that we would move back up Kyuquot Inlet and see if we could find some good swimming. The anchor was aweigh at 11:00 and we motored south of Amos Island before turning up into the inlet north of Guillod Point, the wind was consistent enough in speed and directions that we sailed the rest of the way into Hankin Cove. We had a look in the inner cove, but did not want to fool with a shore line, so came back out to the outer cove, where we anchored at 13:40 in 17.5 m of water. The Admirals went for a paddle in the kayak and the kids and Lucy went for a row around the cove. Shortly after they all left, John and I spotted a large black bear foraging along the shore at the SE end of the cove. He stayed there most of the afternoon. About 16:00, we all went for a swim in the 19 deg C water, followed by a warm solar shower. Finally, it actually feels like summer. After happy hour and dinner aboard, we watched the sun set and admired the astounding variety of lenticular clouds as their color and texture changed through the course of the evening.
