The day dawned clear and cool with a light NE wind. After our rough nite last night, we were a bit slow getting up, but finally crawled out into the cold at 08:30. We lazed around all morning, although I did finish the cockscombing on the starboard rail. At 12:00, we got away from the dock and headed north into the stream and the wind, motoring all the way to the Poughkeepsie Y.C., passing under the Mid-Hudson Suspension Bridge and the Poughkeepsie R.R. Bridge along the way, along with Vassar College, the Culinary Institute, Hyde Park(FDR’s summer cottage), and the Vanderbilt’s summer cottage on the way. We could have sailed all or part of the way, but it would have made the trip much longer and neither one of us wanted to take any longer than necessary, for some reason. We tied to a mooring ball at the PYC ($20/night at a guest mooring) at 16:00, then passed a quiet evening on the river. After happy hour, we had dinner of last night’s Greek leftovers and I played guitar and we sang for a long while. The Canada geese squawked until late in the night; I guess the migration south is in full swing, because there are a bunch of them around, although why they are so noisy well after dark is not clear to me. A few of the trees were just starting to change (color) along the banks of the river, although I think it is a week or two early for the big change. But the weather is showing signs of changing; as soon as the sun went down this evening, we were into long pants and polar-tecs. This is likely our last night on the river, as tomorrow we are heading into Rondout Creek to get ready to haul the boat for the winter; I have contracted with Rondout Yacht Basin to unstep the mast and haul the boat and store it for the winter. Early this afternoon, we booked a flight home out of Boston on 5 Oct (a week from this coming Wednesday), so we have put a period on this year’s cruise.
